Moving is a drawn out process. Once you decide on moving, the next step is to plan out the details. Determining what you will take and the best way to begin packing isn’t as easy as it sounds. To help you adjust your schedule and properly prepare for your move, we’ve outlined a few steps for you to take each week leading up to your move.
One month prior to your move you should write out a list of your utility companies, banking institutions and credit card companies. From there, begin notifying them of your change of address. It often takes weeks if not months to get everything changed over, and the last thing you want is for your personal information to end up in the wrong hands because you failed to change your address. Call or mail any company or organization that needs your new address around 4 to 6 weeks before your big move.
Three weeks before your move is the perfect time to find and book your moving company. Most qualified movers book up quickly, so the sooner you contact your movers the better. Also, if you have already booked your movers make sure and confirm what items will be moved and the estimated size of truck you will need. During this time you should also call and confirm your turn on and off dates with your utility companies.
The final week before your move, do your best to make arrangements for any pets or live plants that you will be moving. Most companies cannot move living creatures, so plan ahead to ensure that the proper arrangements are made.
As you get closer to moving day, try to get as much rest as possible and keep a positive attitude. Once your move is over you’ll be glad you planned ahead!
